Studies and work

Work

I'm working at Murata Electronics Oy as product quality specialist. I've only just started, so I don't know too much about the job yet.

Previously, I was an applications development engineer at AdaptaMat Oy, a company specializing in Ni–Mn–Ga magnetic shape memory (MSM) alloy. My job included development of demonstrator prototypes of MSM applications (e.g. actuators, position sensors, vibration energy harvesters), their control electronics, as well as some custom process equipment for our production facility.

Prior to AdaptaMat, I worked at the Helsinki University of Technology (initially called HUT, later TKK, now A"alto U?niversity) for 13 years. I worked at the Laboratory of Electron Physics, the Microfabrication Centre, and the Department of Micro- and Nanosciences' Microfabrication Group as a research scientist and maintaining a variety of lab equipment (e.g. electron microscopes, optical mask aligners, evaporators, wafer dicing saw, electroplater, etc.)

Studies

I studied chemistry at the Helsinki University of Technology, but a summer job I got at the Laboratory of Electron Physics diverted me from Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry (my major and minor subjects) into the field of Semiconductor Technology and Microfabrication. My M.Sc. thesis was on liquid phase deposition of silicon dioxide thin films, and for my Ph.D. thesis I defected from Chemistry into the Electrical department, although the thesis dealt with chemical sensors (semiconductor gas sensors and hot-electron electrochemiluminescent devices).

Before university, I have studied at the following schools: Kimokujan koulu, Hakunilanrinteen ala-aste, Burnside Primary School (Adelaide, Australia), Carnarvon Community School (Vancouver, Canada), Hakunilan yläaste, Bloomington High School South (Bloomington, Indiana, USA), and Sotungin lukio.
